Are you interested in Joining the Department?

Application

Please print and fill out the Membership Application for consideration to the Divide Volunteer Fire Department, or email Chief Tom O'Connor for more information

Welcome to the Divide Volunteer Fire Department. We are very pleased that you are considering joining DVFD.

As an applicant member, you will have six months to become thoroughly familiar with all of the equipment and apparatus at the station. You must also learn our standard operating procedures and become acquainted with as many of your fellow members as possible during that time.

You will be assigned an experienced member of the Department to serve as your mentor during this initial application period. Your mentor will answer any questions that you may have and will provide all of the initial training on our fire and rescue apparatus that you will need to satisfy the applicant member training program and allow you to move on to Active Member status.

You are encouraged to run on as many calls as possible. We have found that on-the-job training is the best way to become an effective team member. Becoming a team player is the most important thing that you can accomplish within the department. Your fellow volunteers will need to feel that they can depend on you without hesitation.

Not all of your experiences with the department will be fun and exciting. Along with the thrill of saving a life, fighting a fire, and rappelling over-the-side to rescue a damsel in distress, will come the tragedy of dealing with fatal traffic accidents and cardiac arrests, the drudgery of cleaning hose and restocking the trucks after long and tiring calls, the frustration of dealing with older and sometimes unreliable equipment, and the inconvenience of getting up in the wee hours of the night to answer those emergency alarms - when you would really rather just roll over and go back to sleep.

If this sounds like you, feel free to email Chief Tom O'Connor, and begin the application process. I hope that your tenure with the Department will be exciting, rewarding, and fulfilling.

Sincerely,
Tom O'Connor
Chief
Divide Volunteer Fire Department
